I'm not sure your statement is factual that it costs too much to relocate them. Certainly they may be better off to be relocated to a town more responsible than Mammoth. Some towns dismiss the idea everything revolves around money. Simple ordinances would help the bear problem greatly like ban "bird " feeders, outdoor leaving of pet foods etc. Here's one...bear proof trash cans..last summer I watched night after night a bear coming in to feed on the trash cans at the Rite Aid shopping center. Not one can was bolted down or emptied......They since have been bolted down. Come on Mammoth if you want to be proud of your Bear Whisperer and shine in the country then take some radical steps to protect the bears from being shot. That relocated bear will find civilization again because he knows wherever people are he can find a food source.
