Updates on Mono Court Cases Involving Sex Crimes

A case closely watched by some in Mammoth Lakes has nearly come to a close. 69-year-old Ricardo Munoz had earlier faced three counts of lewd conduct in public. Now, Munoz awaits

sentencing on two charges to which he entered no contest pleas.

According to the District Attorney's office, Munoz pled to two counts of lewd conduct in public. He could face up to one year in custody. A probation report on sentencing is pending. The sentencing date is February 22nd.

Some parents in Mammoth had expressed concerns about the release of Mr. Munoz on his own recognizance pending court proceedings. As a result, the DA had filed a motion to increase Munoz's bail. Judge Ed Forstenzer did not increase bail but did issue conditions that Munoz stay at least 100 yards away from bus stops, schools, parks and day care centers.

In another case - that of Mike Harris, the DA expects a motion for a new trial to be heard February 25th. A Mono County jury found Harris guilty of 18 counts of molestation and 1 count of rape - both involving victims under the age of 14.

Harris remains in custody at the Mono County Jail in Bridgeport under a no bail hold. The court currently has a date set for sentencing on March 26th.

This is a message to Bennett Kessler

I understand that Ricardo Munoz was to be sentenced on February 22nd. I wanted to know if you have heard anything new on this case.

Apparently a friend of mine saw Ricardo walking free in Mammoth just a week ago.

Would you mind getting back to me and letting me know the latest.

Thank you for your help.

Editor's Note:
Tina,
The sentencing of Ricardo Munoz was continued. The District Attorney's office says they will let us know the new date. We will report it as soon as we get it.
