As fire fighters get a handle on the Clover Fire burning in Southern Inyo County, the Piute fire burning in Kern County continues to add to the potpourri of smoke in the Eastern Sierra.
Burning in the pine forests near Lake Isabella, satellite photos show the smoke plume headed straight for the Eastern Sierra.
 Fire officials haven’t pinned down the cause on this fire that started Saturday. At last report the Piute Fire had burned 8200 acres and was 6% contained. Kern County fire officials report that crews will likely have to build 17 miles of fire line to get this fire contained. 1200 structures are listed as threatened, though none have burned so far.
The Clover Fire burning in the Sierra Southwest of Olancha continues to hold steady at 15,200 acres in size. Today crews listed the fire at 60% contained. Fire officials report that on Monday the containment lines held despite 40 mile per hour winds.
The other big smoke source for the Mammoth area, the Oliver fire burning in Mariposa County, remains at about 2800 acres in size. Tuesday crews reported the fire was up to 70% contained.
And after five days of health advisories due to the smoke, levels have dropped off enough to lift the Great Basin Air Pollution Control health advisory.
