Wednesday morning, the Inyo Sheriff's Department received a call just after 11am.  The caller said a 16 year old boy had fallen from near the top of the waterfall located at the Whiteny Portal area.

      Sheriff's officers and volunteers from the Lone Pine Fire Department rushed to the scene.  The victim was a 16 year old boy who was part of a Southern California youth group visiting the area.  Reports said the boy \slipped and fell near the top of the waterfall located at the Portal site.

      Someone began to administer CPR on the scene immediately.  The boy was taken to Southern Inyo Hospital but pronounced dead shortly after arrival.  His body was turned over to the Inyo County Coroner.
