Tuesday afternoon at about 3:15 firefighters responded to the Lower Rock Creek Road area for a brush fire. The fire burned just off the road between Paradise and Swall Meadows. Cal Fire crews, Forest Service crews, Paradise Fire volunteers, and Long Valley volunteers, all headed into the sage brush to contain the fire as fast as possible.

Crews cut line and ran hose to put water on the fire. The Single Engine Air Tanker stationed at the Bishop Airport flew over the fire to dump loads of retardant on the fire as well. With the quick work of the fire fighters the fire was contained at four and a half acres in size. Crews were working mop up by 5:00 p.m.

The incident commander on this fire, Division Chief Roger Thompson, reported that the fire started near one of the switch backs on the Lower Rock Creek Road. With no lightning in the area, a human cause is highly likely. One angle being investigated is that a pick up scraping the road clean was the cause of this fire.
