Investigators believe they have pinned down the cause of the tragic death of a 13 month old child last week. On Monday, August 25, Highway Patrol officers reported that the infant boy died after being struck by his family’s car in the Mono Village campground at Twin Lakes.

The Highway Patrol, the Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Fighters, and Mono Sheriff Officers responded to the call. When emergency workers arrived on scene they saw that a runaway vehicle, a green GMC Yukon, had struck the baby causing serious head and chest trauma. At rolling speed, the vehicle ran over the 13 month old. The child was air lifted to Reno where he died from the injuries.

With a mechanical malfunction ruled out, investigators have now determined that the Yukon was knocked out of park by the two year old, older sibling of the victim who was playing in the vehicle.

I do not understsnd the "no mechanical failure" statement as to get out of park the break pedal must be depressed something no child of 2 can do. An explaniation needed!!!!!!
