Tehipite Fire Smoke in the Eastern Sierra |

One fire that continues to send smoke into the Eastern Sierra is the Tehipite Fire burning in Kings Canyon National Park.
 This lightning caused fire has been burning slowly since July 14th, but lately has grown to over 1600 acres in size at last report. Smoke from this fire seems to appear over the Bishop Creek/Bishop Pass area in the afternoons lately.
The Tehipite fire is burning above the steep and deep canyon of the Middle Fork of the Kings River in the National Park. Steep rocky terrain was expected to contain the fire but burning vegetation that rolls down the steep slopes has caused this fire to spread.
Park Officials report that the fire is being monitored by two firefighters near the fire, by fire look-outs at Buck Rock, by viewing the Buck Rock web cam, and by periodic helicopter flights.
