As individuals remembered where they were when they heard about the planes slamming into New York's twin towers in 2001, some in the Eastern Sierra's communities displayed flags and messages to "Never Forget."

Some of our towns decided to display American flags all along the streets. Flags were flown at private homes throughout Inyo-Mono.

Bishop's Fire Chief Ray Seguine held true to his tradition - the display for the flag at the end of the fire truck extension ladder. Firefighters are especially honored on September 11th for the heroic role they played in New York. Many lost their lives in a valiant effort to save people in the crumbling buildings.

At KSRW Radio, we offered a moment of silence for listeners to remember the day in their own way, followed by "America the Beautiful."

In Mammoth Lakes, the annual First Responders event sponsored by the Rotary Club saw a big crowd of firefighters, police and others honoring those who lost their lives 7 years ago. The Mammoth Color Guard presented the flag to the large gathering behind Fire Station #1.
